It was brought to our attention that you were instructed to visit this sight. I have been appointed chair of the welcoming committee. Please, pick out a nice "handle" and mingle with us here. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can join in on any topic you like, or start one of your own. If you can't think of anything to say, just ask Lisa Mader for help and I'm sure she'll guide you along.
Let me first thank you for coming, and let you know that your U is heading down the tubes fast. I know you were overloaded with a lot of useless info at your meeting tonight. The real facts and figures and scattered all around over here and on the old fireshelby board. Just look around and make yourself at home. Let me recommend the conspiracy theory posts here, they're some of my favorite. And, please take a look at Invictus' stuff; you'll like him, most of our regular visitors do.
Don't let some of our posters scare you. Most are thoughtful and courteous, though there will be arguments from time to time. If you have trouble with the language --- e.g., "trolls," "LOL," "ROTFLMAO" etc., just ask a regular poster for help and I'm sure he/she will be glad to assist you. Just remember, you may encounter threads with negative comments about Thames here. Don't be shocked and surprised. One final note, let us know who you are, and we'll be sure to spread the good word about your business.
I think it is really strange that so many of the businesspeople in Hattiesburg will so blindly take the word of the USM administration over hundreds of faculty members who have been their customers, patients, neighbors, fellow church members, etc., for many years.
It's a shame that you have to be told to come here to see this board and get a feel for what faculty are saying. I guess it would have been too easy to just ask someone you know who works at USM why the faculty and staff are so frustrated.

This is why a liberal arts background is important.
I can catch lightening in a jar, and I still don't have a clue as to what you just said.

Or, perhaps, they should have invited that Thompson fella. You know, the one who's son owned the photography studio on Hardy Street? Surely you remember? All of that mess about secret, hidden cameras in the bathrooms and dressing rooms? Videotapes of underage girls being transported across state lines (to Atlanta)?
As I remember it, it was the sheer multitude of civil lawsuits that forced Thompson to sell his interests in the local Coca Cola Bottling Plant.
These business people very well may be coming on this site to get a feel for the types of topics being posted and a feel for the types of posters on your board...At the risk of taking this board too seriously, the flippant and assine responses so far in this thread will only alienate people on the other side of your issues...Some could easily print out some of this pap and use it as ammunition against you in the community...Fun is Fun but don't let your Fun be turned against you...
I doubt that very many people will be paying attention to this thread. If they can't see that 75%-90% of the topics discussed are serious topics, then they aren't looking very hard. I believe intelligent readers will see this as a joke and will move on to the next thread. Unless they want to get a real sense of how free speech works, in which case they'll read this and think about it, then post a response, humorous or not.

Some may just come to collect ammunition. The serious threads don't supply that. People "having fun" praticing there "creative writing" skills do. Do forget " Loose lips sink ships". Guess which war that was from.

The problem with the fun is that the people who are named have familes and kin who might not see this as so funny . . . they may not necessarily like that their relations did bad things but they also might not like people from outside holding them up for ridicule . . .

Excellent point; in general it is better to refrain from ad hominem arguments (except in the case of Shelby and Roy Klumb, who indulge in it themselves and thus deserve it. Besides, I am not quite sure that either is a hominid).
