"The only involvement my office has had was to provide information, which we would do for any group that asked for it," Mader said.
Unless you are the university's own faculty members asking for the CV of a current administrator!
Gimme a break...plus why does this group have to meet to "get the good word out" about USM when Lisa Mader is highly paid to do that? Plus all of the money spent on huge banners???? Why not put the "good news" on those???
"Lacy said the meeting was not open to the public because the committee wanted to start with a small group. She said the media wasn't invited because they want those who attend to feel they can speak freely."
I don't get it (actually, I *do* get it): why are they reluctant to "speak freely" in front of reporters or on the record? If they are afraid that the full, subtle nuances of their comments won't be reported, then tape the meeting and release the tape to anyone who wants to listen to it.

Remember this quote from the H.A. article? (I can't believe the thread is already on page 5.)
"Hattiesburg businessman Carl Nicholson, a former College Board member, questioned the media coverage of Southern Miss. Asked about access to the meeting, Nicholson cited the Faculty Senate's holding closed-door executive sessions when media members must leave.
"I don't see anything wrong with us having a private meeting," Nicholson said. "We still have that right under the Constitution to assemble, don't we?" "
