So I'm off the message board for only a day, packing for the next great Mississippi expedition, come back here for a quick pre-departure USM update and after a cursory reading my head's spinning like Linda Blair in the Exorcist. There's W.J. Johnson, someone claiming to be the real W.J. Johnson, then another player saying no I'm the real W.J. Johnson, along with W.J.'s secretary Bettie Joe Wurstheimer, who apparently has her own impostor, and now Shelby himself. Do I have that straight? Where's Judge Cooley? I have absolutely nothing to contribute, but I was looking forward to sitting in on the big pow-wow at Luby's. I suppose now I'll have to settle for 206 Front? Please don't tell me they're out of business or off-limits.

So it probably would be inappropriate of me to ask Robin Robinson what she thinks of W.J. Johnson's addition to the business faculty? By the way, I'm not sure I agree with your troll hypothesis. At first blush, the author of the Johnson posts seems to be plying some pretty sophisticated satire. Then again, maybe it's my own warped humor that makes it seem so.
Welcome back. Have you had the chance to catch up on the last several of Robert Campbell's L&P blogs written during your absence? This has been a happening place of late.

Thanks. I did read Robert's blog entry for March 5th, late last night. It was timely, and an excellent refresher course on the past year's events. The only thing I found lacking was a report of Shelby's early retirement. It's unfortunate that Thames doesn't have the class of Elizabeth Hoffman from CU, who opted to step down for the good of the university, even though she'd done a generally fine job as president.

I have had the pleasure of serving on several public service boards and commissions with Ms. Robinson. I know her well, and know that she shares my high opinion of Dr. Thames and his immense managerial skills. You may feel free to ask her anything you wish about me. I feel certain that if she isn't already aware of my new post at USM, she'll be utterly delighted to learn of it.

Yes Sir, I am happy to explain. I was offered the USM post by Dr. Thames himself, with the understanding that I would report only to the President. Dr. Doty had no involvement in my negotiations or employment, and he will not be in my chain of command. In fact, he is one of the primary reasons Dr. Thames felt it important to bring me aboard. Dr. Doty is seen as an obstructionist who acts in his own self-interest, and refuses to comply with the wishes of his superiors, Dr. Thames and Dr. Malone. I will employ various management techniques which I developed in the business world to motivate Dr. Doty, and make him see the light.
