I actually think there's some value in answering the serious points made by WJ Johnson and other "trolls" even if -- and perhaps especially if -- they are "plants." Doing so gives us practice in answering legitimate questions that might be raised by members of "the public," and, in the process of reading others' answers, I personally have learned much that has strengthened my own understanding of the precise circumstances and history of USM. Answering trolls, then, is not a waste of time, especially if it is coupled with other activities meant to address a wider public. That, in any case, is my view.
