A Brief Report on the Faculty Senate Meeting.
Faculty Senate met from 2 until after 5:30 pm. There was much discussion concerning the article in the Independent. The story and the statements are being check out and the Faculty Senate may have a statement next week. The Hattiesburg American was in attendance and may have a story on this soon.
Continuing Education was supposed to have addressed the Senate concerning the recent changes. However, this did not occur. Many problems with distant learning were made known which could be problems for SACS accreditation. These problems were not caused by CE.
The Senate decided to extend its evaluation of administrators to the C.O.O. Gulf Coast, Dr. Ken Malone.
The Senate heard from student residents of Pine Haven married student housing concerning the removal of Pine Haven. The Senate is looking into this situation.
In general people are exhausted and frustrated that their hard work for accreditation can be wiped out by stupid moves by this administration. I'm going to bed.
Reporter, thank you and the other Senators for spending this entire lovely early-spring warm, sunny afternoon, in your thankless and nearly hopeless task.
As I said earlier, if he's not gone or clearly going by the end of the semester, you should all re-evaluate your level of effort.

Yes, Robert. The faculty at Gulf Park were very anxious to evaluate Malone. As C.O.O. there he wears many hats and it wasn't clear what instrument to use for this evaluation. I believe the Senate decided the Provost evaluation instrument was best suited for the position he holds. Of course, he was evaluated, during the regular evaluation, as Chair of Economic Development by the faculty in that department.
As a side note, the senate was informed that the Graduate Council Credentials Committee will review graduate faculty status for all faculty that change departments or change colleges. This policy was just approved last week and comes at a good time before SACS review and after all of the recent dept. and college changes.
