Why so little support from other MS faculty?

I hate to say this but it is because so many see this as a zero-sum game. Thames, by the way, is clearly of this mindset.

No, and that's precisely the problem. What has happened at USM could NEVER happen at Ole Miss. If the events were repeated there, Shelby would have been gone in '03, because the board, alumni, and state politicians would never allow their flagship school to be trashed like USM. To them, USM is a project, and without alumni willing to stand up for it, we'll continue to be treated as such.

I think the majority simply know much about what's going on at USM. If the situations on their respective campuses are relatively stable, they are probably too busy doing teaching, research & service to keep up with the pig circus at USM. Of the few who do take notice, probably most think, "Thank goodness that can't happen here." And if they're in Oxford or Starkville, they're probably right.

Personally, I'd like to see what kind of rise one would get out of the faculty (and alumni) of the University of Mississippi if a group of "influential community members" purported to meet & support a vision of converting that institution into a glorified trade school.

Yes, you have overlooked it. Initially several other schools were in cahoots with the USM Faculty Senate, but they finally saw the writing on the wall. People here on this board also started taking drastic and unethical measures that no other respectable faculty or school would participate in. Also, most of the people here are English and Anthropology/Sociology personnel and former faculty. They have alot of free time on their hands now.

I do not understand why you think people would rally around a sinking ship, especially a pirate ship.

This upcoming meeting is so reminiscent of the one held before the reorganization in early '03. How many of the same people were involved, does anyone know?

I have lost all respect for you (and there wasn't much to begin with). You continue to ignore repeated requests to defend Shelby. If I were you, I'd be ashamed to show my moniker on this board.
