Word is that another chair will be leaving for greener pastures taking with him at least one other person. Watch for more departures to be announced soon.

Can Jameela check-in with the board and confirm Wheeler is leaving and who will be the next chair? Jameela, are you out there? I'll buy you a "cherry diet coke"........
Jameela Lares, Anne Wallace, Ellen Weinauer, Will Watson have all demonstrated leadership qualities to readers of this board. Which probably means they're perpetual personae non gratae to El Pood, the evil endomorph of Arts and Letters . . .

A part-time graduate assistant should be able to do the job quite handily. As time goes on and more and there are more and more faculty departures, there will probably be less and less to do anyway.

I suggest that we bring back Noel Polk. He'd keep the troops in line. Didn't he say he would accept just 15 minutes of work time in the president's office. Then he should be able to handle English in half that time.
David Wheeler is, in fact, leaving, for a chair's job at Armstrong Atlantic University in Savannah, GA next year. He told the English department earlier today. Also leaving the department is his wife, Mary Villeponteaux, although, as I understand, she will delay her departure by a year.
I have heard the rumor--and haven't read about it on this message board, though I have been kind of busy this week--that the MA in English is being terminated. Is this true? If it is, it is certainly scary. This would be understable because the many departures have decreased the number of excellent faculty in one of the truly unique programs at the university, but it would also be a crime. Hope I have heard wrong.
the CL really botched this one. The MS degree in english was terminated, but not the MA degree. English hasn't given an MS degree in english for years.
