I not perplexed at all. Sometimes folks feel strongly about things. I assume that is why you sent your letter. I encourage you to send one next week also. So long as the HA accepts it for publication, keep those cards and letters coming. There is no such thing as too much discussion on such an important issue.

Ower left before Thames got here, so that he is given so much space to air his opinions in your paper--as if he really knows what is going on--is rather perplexing."
Geez, whose side are you on? Ower is right on the money.
I think we can tell whose side he's on. Only one side of our struggle continually acts to quash discussion. Let Mr. Fidelity send his letters...it just keeps our plight in the public eye. Mr. Fidelity would be better served to let it go in hopes our ire will die....
Although I hugely admire John Ower's letter(s), I will agree with Mr. Fidelity to this extent: I do wish that others would write to the HA and other papers. It astonishes me that more people in Hattiesburg (and elsewhere) do not seem willing to express themselves publicly on this issue. Now (especially in the aftermath of the latest debacle by the IHL) is the time for new writers to step up to the plate. The IHL (and the public at large) need to hear from some new voices.

I know of others writing letters to the H.A., USM Sympathizer. One shortcoming of the American is that they don't print many letters. They only average about 2 a day. I think when most of the letters are saying the same thing they print the best, most articulate letter of the group. My guess is they would like to have both sides represented, but it is getting harder to obtain articulate letters from one of the sides. You can guess which one. Again this is just my speculation.

Mr. Fidelity,
You actually wrote a letter complaining that too many of Mr. Ower's letters are appearing in the American? Dearie, anybody who writes letters like Mr. Ower writes can come over to my place and use my typewriter as often as they wish. I'll even fix them a cup of coffee while they are typing.

Ower never taught at USM. He's a retired English professor from another state. South Carolina, I think. His voice is valued because, like that of Professors Campbell and Evans, it shows how other academics see the mess at USM. Can anyone point to an academic -- a real, authentically and verifiably credentialed academic -- who has come out to defend SFT?

No, but I can tell you that I think the highest academic in the state has Shelby Thames' number. Let's see if the IHL board will listen to their own expert since they have chosen not to listen to ours.
In my line of work, I never "get my hands dirty" with day-to-day "tasks" -- I have "button men" to do that for me. The IHL is just a bunch of "button men" for the Mississippi Dons who are calling the shots. Don't expect to be able to link anything back to the Dons, however, because those of us who operate in this manner always have levels of separation between us and the "tasks" that must be "accomplished."
