J. Krebs was shown last night on WDAM news for winning the SGA prez election. He and Thames were cozied up. This is 4 straight Thames lackeys that have held the seat. I guess now we'll have to hear regularly from Krebs how a vast majority of USM people support Thames and Grimes and Malone and Lassen.

Man you suck. It is one thing to go after Thames and his supporters/employees, but it is entirely another matter to go after students. Leave them out of this affair and quit giving them fuel for the fire. Krebs worked hard for his win, and you should not be belittling him for it or imputing to him your conspiracy-theory taint.

Lots of assumptions there, Albert. Is SGA Hata a "man"? Might SGA Hata be a student, also, and -- according to your rules -- above criticism?
That said, I agree that Krebs should be given the chance to succeed or fail or flounder on his own, not by a perceived association with the president.
I do not agree that -- either by virtue of his hard work or his status as a student -- he should be left "out of this affair" or not held accountable for his policies, positions or actions. That's all part of the educational experience. It especially comes with the territory of elective office.

Name: Gary Vincent Krebs Department: Human Performance & Recreation Title: Assoc Professor/Coord Exer Sci Office Location: HPR 231 Office Phone: 601 266-6624 P.O. Box: 05142 E-mail: Gary.Krebs@usm.edu
I do know Jonathan. As an adult that traveled with numerous HHS extracuricular groups, one of which included Jonathan, I can speak from experience that he is an extraordinary young person. I do not always agree with his politics, but that is a result more of his religious background more than anything else. As far as his dad, Gary did leave USM in 2001, but his family stayed in Hattiesburg since Jonathan was a senior in high school. For whatever reason, Gary chose to return to the Hub City and USM. That being said, maybe the reason Thames was beside Jonathan was because Thames horned in on the exposure. That would be about par for Thames' mindset; nice clean cut student, let me put myself next to him and maybe some of it will rub off on me. If you do not know Jonathan, please sit down and be quiet.

Just noticed he is also in the local phone book, perhaps SGA Hata could reach back for old mississippi traditions and leave something in his yard.
I am disturbed by the general tone of posts on this thread. This young man will try over the next year to achieve many things on behalf of the student body, very few of which can be accomplished if he engages in open warfare with the president of the university. I have dealt with him in several difficult situations and find that his method of listening to both sides and taking subtle action is quite effective. We need to, as a faculty, support student government and hope they will also be able to rally support for us among those outside the university. We certainly won't gain support for our cause by attacking a student government president unless he says things that are not true.
What you have on this thread is a troll or group of trolls looking to make faculty look bad. Ignore this and it will go away. Krebs will have to decide whether or not to beon Thames' side, and his decision will become evident as soon as he takes action or not.
Lacky???... you are obviously void of any personal knowledge of Johnathan who happens to be one of the most fair and intelligent students I have worked with.

First off, what I hear about the Krebs family is that they are good people. Jonathan's mother works (director of religious education?) for one of the Baptists Churches here in the burg.
About Gary Krebs and his reason for leaving, my spies in COH report that his "first" go-around at Southern Miss, he knew he wasn't going to get tenure under the current director of HPR so he left for Texas AM Corpus Christi, now he's back. To my knowledge he was "visiting" last year, and he was hired as an "associate" in a tenure-track position via an organized and legit search, no smoking gun there. I've met him and he (Gary) IS a GOOD guy..........
If this man thinks SFT's mentorship will help his son, then I'd suggest he first consider Michael Jackson - bigger name, bigger conspiracy, but just about the same "help".

Working for a baptist church does NOT necessarily equate to "good people." I know some real jerks who work for the church. Not saying Mrs. Krebs is in that category at all. Just saying it isn't necessarily a "good people" thing.
I've met Jonathan a couple of times. Seems like a bright young man. Let's see what he does. Not like we can do anything about it beforehand anyway.

lets walk back thru this. 1st you leave because you will are not going to make tenure. you come back as visiting. Now you are rehired with a promotion (assistant to associate) and again on tenure track. In the real world of academics this is not the traditional "organized and legit search". i suppose when i think about it, this nothing out of the norm at USM.
the only reason i mention this again is that an earlier poster made reference that gary had left usm and hinted maybe it was because of shelby. as noted by green hornet it was simply he was not going to be granted tenure under the current director(get COH spies to give more details, please)
good kid, good family, but i certainly hope his upbringing enables him to see the evil that lurks in the dome. an invitation to lunch by the prez of univ sometimes gives you illusions of your greatness only to be thrown out with the trash later.

My understanding was that in Gary's first tour of duty at Southern Miss, the director (who has since retired) was not happy with Gary's scholarly record. So rather than receive a terminal contract, he left and when to Texas. Gary wanted to come back to Hattiesburg (because the family, his wife's job, the kids in school) so he applied for one of the one-year positions HPR had at the time. During that year, he applied for one of the tenure-track positions in the school and was interviewed, etc,. (so that's why I say a legit search), As for the assistant to associate, Gary was hired at Texas AM CC as an associate (and I believe my sources to say, that when he first came here in 1995 he was an associate at the previous palce of employment (up north), hired at USM as an assistant professor) so when he came back in 2003, he was brough in at the associate level. I hope this answers your question "extra point".

Is there a hole for me to get sick in?
A lot of people don't have much food on their table, But they got a lot of forks n' knives, And they gotta cut somethin'.

Yes, maybe they can eat some of the $18 million sanctuary that one local mega church is building. Or they could migrate to Atlanta and eat some of the $57 million sanctuary that First Baptist Woodstock is completing.
No one is cutting on Baptists. The post was that working in the church doesn't always equate to being good people. A lot of damage has been done in the name of church.
I'm not sure we are going to win any support when we start going after students. Alot of us might have made decisions in our younger years that with a little seasoning would be different. I do know Gary and Dotty and they have three great kids. She is the Preschool Minister at FBC Hattiesburg and truth be told is probably making more money than her husband which along with kids in school had alot to do with Gary coming back. I don't necesarily agree with Jonathan's politics and I don't know him well but he is a good student who spent last summer working in Zambia in conditions that most college students wouldn't have voluntarily signed up for. He also spent a minute amount of money in his campaign last year ( less than a $100 I think) while the other guy was buying the campus doughnuts. I think he has some integrity and promise and we need to find a better way to further the cause than disparaging students.

I totally agree. As someone posted earlier, the board has become "testier" in the last few days--frustration for sure. But this is not the way to progress. Hang together. No Quarter!
