Pardon me if this is a duplicate posting, but I am just now fully aware of an agency concerned with international academic freedom and thought a link to the website would be appreciated. I don't think I've seen this agency mentioned before, though with all that's been going on, perhaps I should feel too embarrassed if it has been.

Is there any way for the webmaster to ban the IP address of the poster who faked my name?
I can't speak for the webmaster, but it would appear to me that the REAL Robert Evans would need to email the webmaster (or Amy Young) with a verifiable email address. Otherwise, the "Real Robert Evans" could be a troll trying to get another troll banned. (I'm confusing myself.)
Anyway, banning based on IP address is pretty futile. Anybody using a dial-up needs only to log-off & log back in to get a new IP. Anybody with a cable modem or DSL, needs only to power down the modem & power back up, unless they have a "commercial" account with a static IP. A troll posting from an institutional address would indeed have a more or less static IP, too.
Well, the easiest way to distinguish me (the real Robert Evans) from the fake Robert Evans who posted above is to ask yourself a simple question: is the poster supporting SFT? If no, it's me; if yes, it's the other person. Still, it seems a low blow to steal someone else's identity. Maybe I will start posting anti-SFT stuff using the name "Albert."

Thanks for explaining, Robert. The post was poorly written and punctuated, and therefore confusing. It certainly didn't sound like you, in any case.
I hope we can get back on topic, or at least that several of you will try the hotlink to the website.
No, I do not support SFT. Yes, I am the real Robert Evans. My statement posted earlier stands. Jameela you are hardly the person who needs to be critical of anothers grammar and punctuation!
Please do not e-mail me or the webmaster any IP addresses. You must grow up and accept thte fact that there are trolls out there and ignore them. The most importatn point is that we believe in free speech and tolerance. All posters are entitled to their opinions and indiffernces.

To the real Robert Evans:
As someone who has been impersonated on the board before, I know that it can be annoying. But, take it as a compliment! Someone likes your posts enough to steal your identity. And they'll quit soon enough...just a troll needing some attention on a Friday afternoon.
(I'm sure if the posts get too outrageous, the Webmaster will delete them...as Invictus pointed out, it's much easier than banning IP addresses).

Thanks, Truth! I actually thought of the way you were once impersonated when I read this imposter's post! I will, as you say, take it as a compliment that I've gotten under someone's skin -- and I even think I may have figured out who that "someone" is. In any case, you'd think that the person would at least know how to spell the name of my school correctly (it's Auburn University Montomery, troll, not Auburn University in Montgomery). Plus, anyone who knows me knows that I would never use the phrase "tele"; I may teach British Lit, but I don't talk lit a Brit! I also know how to spell "quickly."

I have to admit that Auburn University is in Montgomery even though its proper name is Aburn University Montgomery(AUM.) That is really nothing to hagel over. After all I was the Distinguished Teaching Professor (2001-2004)

Hmmmm. "Hagel"; is that anything like "haggle"? Any fool (as your post obviously reveals) can get this kind of info off the university website. Besides, those of us who know and love Bob know that he never uses that e-mail account (it's a generic university account). Go buy yourself a bagel and hagel with somebody else. Leave ol' Bob alone!

USM Symp, you've got me ROTLF with this one! Thanks for the chuckle!
