There is a story making the rounds, with very credible sources, that the DuBard School coffers have been raided by SFT & Co.  The word is now that without a fix, the school's programs will have to curtailed to next-to-nothing (or the school may even cease to exist) by the end of this school year.

Was there not an article in the American about the Dubard school. I recall that many people, including faculty have moved from long distances to come to Hattiesburg so one of their children could attend the DuBard School. Assuming that people are moving great distances to access the Dubard school, is not the truly a World Class program? This almost too bizarre to be true. If it were any one else besides the One Man Wrecking Crew at the helm, I would say it was just a rumor. It is so in character for SFT, I can believe it is true. I do not think I would want to confront a mother (and father) whose child is being treated with the news that the place is closing. Some mother is going to kick the crap out of SFT.

What's the old saying: "If Mama ain't happy, then nobody's happy."

Where's "Lessons from Mama" when you need her (him?)?

What "coffers"?  Endowment funds? Foundation funds? Budget reductions?  No matter which, it still reinforces the need for a comprehensive audit of this administrtion's affairs.

Until then, could you shed more light on this?

Iron-clad proof is critical.
Something like this could turn the tide of public opinion, but it has to be verified.

Due to increasing costs beyond our control, it is true that the DuBard School is facing financial challenges.  These issues are being addressed.  However, in no way, has Dr. Thames or his administration been the cause of these issues.  We are very grateful for the support of The University and the community.

Financial difficulties?  But we just bought a plane, spent a fortune on ads in The Economist for a program with no economists, threw away 17,000 plagiarized brochures, paid for a Library renovation plan for a non-existent program, etc.  Are we having a problem with priorities?

What brochures?  What's this about?  Could you please explain?  Was this covered in the media? If not, then why not?  Who was responsible for the plagiarization,  and have they been unceremoniously fired?

See the "new IDV brochures" thread that I just kicked up.

I'm grateful to Maureen Martin for her quick response on this thread. We don't want to stir up issues we can't verify.
Bet she'd love to have the money that went into that plane. Or even into 17,000 brochures.

By the way, someone on another thread asked where the University Proofreader was in the brochure situation. If I understand, the UP checks for consistency with University standards, as well as regular proofing, but I don't think checking the web for plagiarism is part of their job. She has to assume things that are sent to her aren't plagiarized --

I hope that Maureen Martin is correct in her assessment. Certainly she should have more information and insight than any outsider. Since this was first posted, I have asked some people in the community about the situation. As has been noted, the DuBard School has very loyal supporters who feel passionately about it. There are some high profile people in the community who are under the impression that the DuBard School has been targeted by the administration and is in danger of being shut down due to funding. It is difficult to reconcile this conflicting information. Whatever the case may be, I hope that the DuBard School does not have any problems. It not only is one of the premier operations on campus, but it provides help to families of children who without it would live less full and less productive lives. I cannot imagine any administrator attempting to destroy it or hinder it in any way, except of course the One Man Wrecking Crew and his daughter.
