I've been off the board for a few days, so I apologize if I'm duplicating what others have already said--

friends, this Thursday's Board meeting may not be THE moment, but it surely seems an important one--

If you have a number to call or a letter to write or a friend to contact, now is the time. Everyone will approach this in his or her own way, but the Faculty Senate's last two resolutions point us in a way that seems good to me (and you understand that I personally feel a lot more impatient than those two restrained yet forceful documents). We can perhaps at last come to this "reasonably," that is, with reasons that others can appreciate--the repeated mismanagement of the University resulting in a loss of reputation and continued bad publicity.

Really, now, is it not time to acknowledge SFT's inability to do this particular job?

NO QUARTER.

Anne,

Do you have any specific, practical suggestions?  Is it worth it to call the IHL?  If so, I will.

I think a final barrage of letters to IHL would be good. One thing we DON'T want them to be able to say is that they haven't heard a lot of complaints. It's my understanding that one of the things that differentiates the situation here with the previous one with Clyda Rent (sp?) is that the board has NOT been in receipt of a relentless stream of letters, that complaints DID die down somewhat over the summer, as SFT and Co. had hoped. I'm probably preaching to the choir here (sort of like complaining about absentee students to the students who are in the room), but I for one am sending one more letter today.

I don't expect any thing dramatic to happen tomorrow, at least not for the forces of good. But I do hope we see some hint of better days to come.

In the meantime:

No Quarter.

Robert Evans, I think Ellen Weinauer is right: it's important to keep communicating the extent of SFT's failure in terms that make sense to the IHL Board. I'm not sure what you mean by "call the Board"--I'm a person pretty much without Mississippi political connections or savvy (having grown up and spent the first half of my adult life elsewhere), but I think that if you can speak to any individual Board members, or to Crofts (if he will communicate such expressions to the Board, which it seems he might), that may help. Anything that looks like it might REACH people on or near the Board, people to whom the Board will listen if not the Board members themselves, will help.

(Sorry for the slow response--at home fighting nasty cold, and not winning--sigh.)

NO QUARTER.

Anne,

By "call the board" I meant call the main board number, speak to a staff member, and hope that the call is made known to the board.  I have absolutely no political connections in Mississippi (or anywhere else!).  If I did, I would already have used them!

There are some email addresses in one of the locked threads at the top of this board. And surely someone can post the email addresses of the board members. Weren't they circulating last spring at some point?
