After the Lott building is completed the ED folks will have control of some prime real estate. Given the turmoil and SACS issues that ED creates, it seems likely they will be disbanded. USM will then be left with 2 buildings with no purpose (other than being a food court.
Saw it long long ago. Even the building itself carries the hand stamp of SFT controversy, however, as it looked as though it would never be built.
I am sure Trent Lott (a) does not care or (b) does not KNOW that the Tim Hudson ED program is not what folks think it is.
And, at my last counting, there would only be 2-3 teaching professors to house, plus a few staff, so that even if only they build to the third floor, it will be plenty of room.
As to where it will go, it has been discussed and no one has a clue, especially when the crows come home to roost and it becomes evident to the backers that the beloved ED program under Malone now is little more than a sham.
I understand Bobby Chain is aware of the "quality" issue with the present form of ED. My guess is.....................well I dunno, it's such a mess to untangle and upgrade. I believe it will be upgraded IF resources are available, and eventually integrated back into the CoB. Others believe that it will just wither away. It cannot continue as it us under a real SACS type model, that is for sure. They will have to hire people with real economics credentials.
It would make a perfectly great courthouse. Quite convenient for hearing all the USM-related cases. Since it has that federal-looking exterior, it could be used as a facility to hear federal cases, too. Sequestered juries could be housed in the residence halls nearby and fed at the Aramark-run dining facilities. Now that is economic development.
