A couple of characteristics of effective leadership are that the leader has a vision, and he/she is able to inspire followers to internalize this visions. The vision must be challenging yet attainable, much different (better) than where the organization is currently, and the organization must have the resources to accomplish it. But it's not enough to have a great vision...the leader must get followers to internalize it....accept it as their own...when this happens, followers become committed to the vision and the organization, and are willing to exert tremendous amounts of effort in the attempt to accomplish this vision. Does this describe what's happening at USM?
Right you are. And there are plenty of folks -- misguided, perhaps, but there are plenty of them -- who believe that Shelby has the right vision (privatization, "profit driven" programs, etc.) & that his way of getting folks to buy in (intimidation, marginalization, divide-and-conquer, etc.) is simply a traditional management style.
If you don't think so, visit the athletic board...

Yes, you are describing the faculty at USM. Of course, the vision is an accredited USM without SFT.

Never explain--your friends do not need it and your enemies will not believe you anyway.
