I wonder if we'll see a retraction of the Grimes COB memo early next week along with a Thames statement blaming this latest fiasco on JG? That seems to be the MO lately. Do something outrageous and blame it on someone else.
Hey--Grimes, Deans & Company can be blamed for the changes in the post tenure review policy that was sent to IHL Friday.
This is precisely why I recommend another resolution of no confidence to those tired, overburdened Faculty Senators.
Ken Malone doesn't cut it, either as an administrator or a faculty member (and as far as anyone can tell, he is only pretending to be a faculty member). It has now become obvious to everyone that if Malone gets what he wants, USM will lose its accreditation. Time to make the case in a strongly worded resolution of no confidence.
If Grimes takes the fall for Black Friday, no one will miss him or feel sorry for him. But the spotlight needs to be put on Malone. Let him try to defend himself (Thames' PR machine doesn't believe that he can). Let Thames expend more of his dwindling reserve of political capital on defending Malone, or cut Malone loose to protect himself.
Isn't Grimes a reasonably respected scientist? How can he live with himself after having sent a memo telling people to stop doing research? One would think that for an academic, such an idea would be like saying, "Stop breathing."

I'd say you're probably correct by half. The Thames/Mader statement, if it comes, will lay the blame squarely on the shoulders of Tim Hudson.
