University of Southern Mississippi, a public institution Action: placed on probation for 12 months [Issue] The accreditor found deficiencies in the university's self-study, a 10-year-long exercise required by the association, saying the study did not adequately assess the effectiveness of distance learning. [Institution's comment] The university has appointed an assistant to the president to oversee efforts to comply with the accreditor's requirements, and has created three faculty teams to assist in the work.
