Is there a free weekend that we could play USM at Reed Green again? Rick was so impressed by the warm welcome we received that he really wants to head south before the NCAA Tournament in March. It's really much nicer weather in Hattiesburg. We'll leave our starters at home, as they will need to rest up...plus, our JV team needs a chance to pad its stats.
The USM men host Tulane this weekend. CP earlier felt this would be a win, but with the highly unexpected loss to SLU this week, along with Tulane's win over UAB, we're not so sure anymore. With the loss, USM fell to #209 in the Sagarin Poll.
The Lady Eagles host Marquette and DePaul this weekend, two games they could easily lose really big, especially the latter one. Both basketball teams are really struggling at this point.
Football recruiting is well under way now. Rivals.com has the Eagle's commitments ranked near #70 (out of 117 1A recruiting hauls) so far. The team has about 20 committed players so far.
Interesting quotes of the week:
Coach Eustachy says he has noticed a dark cloud over the USM program that is not acceptable to him.
Some of the players were quoted in the papers saying that the 10-point loss to Houston last weekend showed them what winning was like.
M.K. Turk, former coach and now the Mayor of Nitchampburg, said before the Louisville game that he thinks the Nitchampburg idea will likely work out fine as long as it doesn't get cold outside the rest of January or anytime in February.
Several of the posters over on EagleTalk.net are saying that Eustachy's current 6-game losing streak has made them hate James Green and what he did at USM even more than they did before.

Why? I don't get it. It seems that Eustachy's lack of success would make them long for the return of James Green, rather than "hate" him "even more."
