Privatizing the public sphere = corruption

Mississippians, privatization, kickbacks, nepotism, cronyism, profit-stealing, elimination of public-sector jobs and benefits are not just restricted to USM and seem to be indicative of the whole political culture down here.  Is this how most Mississippians believe?  From today's CL:

Watering at the public trough is a time honored tradition among Mississippi politicians. Some would say that only Louisianans can do it better.

Yes.

"The deputy sheriffs, the soldiers, the governors get paid,
And the marshals and cops get the same,
But the poor white man's used in the hands of them all like a tool.
...he never thinks straight
'Bout the shape that he's in
But it ain't him to blame
He's only a pawn in their game."

It is a legacy,

Passed down to you and me:

What we're taught to believe,

We never question these things.

It is a legacy.

It's a wild and bitter seed

Blown across these fertile fields

Where the roots run deep.

I almost quoted that same Randy Newman song, but figured I'd better stick to Dylan.
