THUMBS UP: To the official probation notice from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to the University of Southern Mississippi – a notice that cites only one area of deficiency.
This is good news for Southern Miss officials, who had expected to be cited in three areas.
“We were very pleased to see there was only one issue of concern cited by the association and that did not involve the university’s academic quality, programming or delivery of academic programs,” said Southern Miss President Shelby Thames.
The one area of concern cited in the letter, which is dated Jan. 6? Deficiencies in the university’s distance learning activities, and its failure to evaluate these activities.
“This is very fixable,” said Joan Exline, assistant to the president for accreditation, planning and articulation.
Southern Miss officials need to proceed with all due haste and resolve the accreditation situation.
It is "fixable". Cool. Do it. Fix it. Right now, Miss Joan and Mr. Shelboo, right now. If it was so "fixable" why didn't you take care of this sooner? Perhaps your need to see your names in the headlines, for good or poor reasons, has overtaken your taxpayer paid positions to serve this university. It wasn't built to glorify you. Truly, it wasn't. But since you said that YOU can "fix it" - let's see it. Fix it, Joan. Can't wait for the finished project. After all, you can always blame anything on the Victoria boy.
