Well, I was plenty happy that I didn't have to wear a black-and-gold yarmulke, that's for sure. I was also relieved that they dispensed with the mandatory head-shavings, too, although I don't think that would much bother either of us now, would it, Stephen?

Hard to imagine that Lucas was the one who gave Kennard the rejection stamp.

The Kennard story is tragic and compelling.  I urge anyone unfamiliar with it to become familiar with it.

I may be wrong but wasn't it explained that changing the street names will make the university more relevant to the students and make them want to stay around campus on the weekends? It has been a while since I was a student, but I don't think I ever planned my weekend around the name of my undergrad campus' street names.

There won't be a problem with the stationery, since we are all supposed to be using the 118 College Drive [your box number]. That was supposed to be a Post Office mandate.

Clio, you're right. I can hear the frat boys now:

Dude #1: "Hey Bra, let's go get wasted and hook up with some honnies tonight on Borbon Street."

Dude#2: "Naw Dude, I say we head over to Seymour St., pound some brews, kick some tunes, and appreciate our kickass campus!"

Dude #1: "Seymour Butts."

Dude #2: "Uh-uh. You said butts."

(insert high-five)

or even the sororities...

Abercrombie #1: (twirling her hair) "Like, what are we gonna doooo tonight?"

Abercrombie #2: (talking on her picture phone) "Like, let's cruise up and town Buffett Blvd. in my daddy's new Accord, drink margaritas, and pretend we're on like one of those islands or something."

Abercrombie #1: (drops her moca-choca-latte-soy whatever) "Wow! You are like so smart for being a blonde. Fer sure."

Hmmm... Y'know, although like a bad penny, I kept showing up at USM for years & years, I can't recall the name of a single street.

Have they repaved the parking lot/street north of Scott Hall? Last time I drove through campus, I wasn't sure my pickup truck could make it through there.

College Drive??  What happened to Southern Station?  You know, since it is the University of SOUTHERN Mississippi.  College - that's too generic.  That in no way identifies which college.

I've apparently been out of the loop longer than I had thought.

Well, in January 2003, there was a memo from The Dome, proclaiming the new 'official' address as 118 College Drive. Box [insert your Southern Station Box number].  At the time, the claim was that this was a U.S. Postal Service mandate, that ALL addresses had to conform with the 'physical address' of the building.

However, something worthy of further note was the idea that, as soon as the Hub 'renovation' was completed, that the USM Post Office might change its 'physical address' to Chas Lane Drive!  If that happens, add some more to the printing budget for every department, as they 're-edit' the stationery once more!
