Maybe the next step should be an advertisement at half-time at the Superbowl next year. To compete with the periennialy favorite Budweiser Clydesdale horses advertisement at that event, I suggest that the USM ad feature the famous NitChampburg horses, our newest tradition.
i've been preparing a syllabus for a grad class, so maybe i'm overly sensitive. i've got a hunch this course wouldn't meet SACS muster. what's the research component? in my shop this would best pass as an undergraduate class.

Maybe his mind was on Perrier - one of the "snacks"?
In all seriousness, I think "peer-reviewed journal" was an attempt to show rigor in a class (program) criticized for having none. It is characteristic of a number of things the program has done to try and present itself as more than it is. Even the silly survey discusses the "research" agenda. The act of saying something does not make it true. Remeber when Lassen talked about the importance of shared governance?
Wait 'til folks discover that "peer-reviewed" will end up being a new publication that endorses this program and is part of a new accrediting agency. Oops, did I really let that slip?
Absolutely fascinating. Where's the part that explains financing your Mom n Pop outfit when people drive past you on the their way to the Big Blue Store? And how many M&P outfits grow to be multinational? Gimme a break . . .

I was dozing off at my computer until I saw your comment. Where did you get that idea? If that were true, I would be willing to come to campus personally, lock the outside doors, and throw away the keys.

Locking yourself in or out?
Read today's additions to the Pay-Per-View program. Who said this website doesn't make a difference.
The IDV website was updated today. One new addition was an extensive list of faculty members who, evidently, serve on committees for PhD students in the program. One of those individuals recently gave a nominally big donation to the program, or its master's affiliate.

The answer to your third question is "yes"; and, as an answer to your second, AACSB wouldn't think to well of this course, and its existence (and others like it) could jeopardize the college's accreditation.

Right inside, opposite the table of contents is a full-page full color ad for the PhD program in International Development. This ad will run three times at $128,600 a pop. You can reach the ad by linking on the usm home page at the bottom, click on the International Development PhD program, then see the ad. Nearly a half a million dollars has been spent on this ad. I am stunned as we face fiscal cuts at USM. Amy Young"
FYI, there's no such ad anywhere in the January 1-7 UK edition, which I paged through here in Cambridge, where I'm doing research right now. I ended up buying the edition, actually, as it had some interesting looking articles. But no ad for USM.

Jameela,
Thanks. You have probably just confirmed Amy Young's second post that if the ad is only run in North American editions, the cost (after paying for the ad development) would be $240,000. Still a huge chunk of change.
The list of "Student Commitee Members" (right underneath the list of IDV faculty) is poorly edited--several people who are listed as faculty as also listed as committee members.
So who ponied up the big donation?
Robert Campbell
PS. How come they didn't list Angie Dvorak as a "student committee member." Has she sworn off involvement with the program?

The odds are that very little was paid for designing the ad. A graphic designer friend of mine assures me it is very amateurish. Note how the perspective on the three faces is screwed up. The farthest face is much bigger than the closest. The smallest face which looks much more distant is in the middle. My friend pointed out all sorts of other layout flaws.
