You might be surprised at how many MSU doctoral graduates hold responsible academic positions at major land grant universities throughout the nation. "

I didn't write MSU was a bad university. It's just that outside the academia world it's not known for its history program. Traditionally, the three majors are known for the follow (once again, outside the academia world):

MSU: agriculture, architecture, veterinary medicine

Ole Miss: law school

USM: teacher program, business,

No you didn't. But you did characterize MSU as not being a prestigious university. If I read Junk Yard Dog right, what he/she was saying is that MSU carries more prestige outside the the state than it does within the state.

You cite law as Ole Miss' claim to fame. I'd say that the Ole Miss law school carries more prestige within the state than outside the state. It seems that Ole Miss lawyers, for the most part, practice in Mississippi. It's medical school has far more national recognition than has its law school.

You may be right. Law school standards are not among my areas of expertise. I did hear a rather interesting story about the Ole Miss law school which I can't confirm or disconfirm. I was told that when Ole Miss had the only accredited law school in the state their gradutes were not required to take the standard law school admission test in order to practice law in Mississippi. When Mississippi College took over the old Jackson School of Law, and two accredited law schools evolved in the state, the examination exemption for Ole Miss law graduates disappeared rapidly! It seems that Ole Miss was not terribly happy about another accredited law school appearing in the state. I heard that story from a lawyer who seemed to know the history, but I can't confirm or disconfirm that story.
