The fact she has in interview there next week would lead one to believe she is one of the two.

I hit submit to quickly.

What I really want to know is if Hudson was in town for the Cola Showdown?

My sources say…TH left Texas heading for Mississippi on Wednesday, claiming that his daughter is having a baby, and he is very excited. Any truth here? This emergency travel is strangely coincidental with the ongoing trouble at USM and tonight’s power meeting. UHV Spring Break starts next week.

Is TH delivering the baby? Could he have waited until Saturday to travel? This sounds odd for a new hire, who is supposedly trying to set examples for the Victorians, to be “cutting out” early. He is not such a great leader and role model, and he is no Texan by any definition. Further, staff and administration do not get "Spring Break" at UHV, but instead have opted for a longer Christmas break.

The Texas Vineyard would appreciate any insight into TH’s itinerary while away. Perhaps we can speed up the process of his inevitable return to USM, assuming that is what you all want.

Help a southern cousin out…we're having a bad go at trying to make good homemade wine down here. Apparently we bought us a spoiled grape, but we'll squash it anyway.

"claiming that his daughter is having a baby"  A conspiracy so immense!

Funny stuff.  Hope you aren't serious.  Baby was born.  Baby is healthy.  Mother is healthy.  Grandpops is happy.

I don't get it.  Why would Uncle Tim travel to Hattiesburg in order to attend a meeting that is by design, a pep rally for Shelby Thames, whom Hudson despises?

That just doesn't sound plausible to me. Maybe he came here to meet with W.J. Johnson and Dr. Goebbels? That makes as much sense as the other theory.

When was the baby born? Tell grandpop TH a big and sincere congrats from the vineyard!

The Texas Vineyard is serious about perceptions that are being created from TH’s office. He chose a small school and a small community, and he should be wise enough to know that small towns have grapevines that run wild (note the grapevine has followed him to a USM blog). We the people chose a non-Texan and outsider, as inbreeding was not an option at this point and juncture. However, for the moment, we realize a hiring mistake was probably made on our part. TH had the credentials, but his heart, so it seems, has remained at USM.

The problem is perception; More specifically, perception based on almost zero communication from TH’s office. He could probably benefit from enrolling in a UHV leadership course or three.

It seems the USM resignation problem has followed TH to Texas. –We are now ashamed of our hiring mistake, but it is not too late for “grandpop” to correct his lack of communication to date and start communicating. If you know of his whereabouts, please tell him to communicate to save his reputation with the vineyard.

Good wine, good friends, and good Texans. We can make grandpop a Texan, but not if he wants to remain in Mississippi. We wish him well in whatever he chooses, but we will always know where his heart lies…USM should probably embrace this, and let us move on.

Texas Vineyard,

Are you serious?  Apparently you don't have kids that mean much to you.  Why would he wait til Saturday to go meet his grandson?  I think putting your family first is grounds for a good role model. And if that aint Texan, then I am pretty sure he doesn't want to be.

Get a life:

I almost completely agree with you. What you have described would indeed make a good Texan, good Mississippian or a good grandfather by any account. The point is that a good grandfather in a small, closely knitted university would make the announcement to all. The birth of a grandbaby would be something to be proud of, something to share with the lower ranks. Everyone would melt, and become part of TM’s team. Please keep in mind that UHV, consists of two buildings in Victoria. We are very, very small.

See my point? USM knows about the (alleged) birth, but UHV is in the dark. What are we to do? Since there is no communication, we can do nothing but feel sorry for the decision we have made.

Please tell TM to phone home and announce it. I am sure his admin staff can arrange a birth announcement to be sent to everyone, we do have that technology at UHV. Or perhaps it is too late?

"We are very, very small."

Small minded.  Small spirited.  Small hearted.

Did it possibly occur to you that the mother of the baby, in this small town, is well known in this community in her own right and that the "good news" passes by other means than TH.  The good news is that he will be home safely to nurse you soon.

ps, in case you hadn't noticed, there are bigger problems in our small town than tracking the movements of TH and his family

According to the article in the local magazine, Hudson only has three children.  None of them are old enough to have children.  And if he does have older children, why would he hide them?  Why haven't they been mentioned, introduced, aknowledged?  This may be behind Hudson's reason for not announcing to UHV. Maybe he doesn't want anyone to know about these other aleged children? Any idea why?

Gimme a break. Tim has two grown, married daughters by his first wife.  They were mentioned in his bio when he first joined UHV. I read it myself.  He's proud of them and their accomplishments; just ask him.  Nothing is being hidden. You must have too much time on your hands if this is causing you concern.

UHV website;  Sept 2004 - Your school's press release:

"The couple has five children. One daughter graduated from, and is now employed at, USM. Another daughter is currently enrolled at USM. The Hudson’s also have a 6-year-old daughter and 3-year-old twins.

In January, the Hudsons became grandparents when a baby boy was born to their daughter, Holly H. Buckner and her husband, Tim. "

Go google Texas too!

Thanks for the compliment and confirming our thoughts about where TH comes from. USM does have more problems than we idiots could possibly even understand. Perhaps we are just sore that we are finding out a valuable HR lesson the hard way. Hindsight is 20/20, and we do feel very stupid and very “small spirited” as you have described. Thanks for rubbing it in.

Yes, I do realize the problems that USM is dealing with, and the saddest part is that the entire academic nation will understand before too long. This website is going to start spreading across the nation like our Texas grapevine has spread to your campus. It is sad to see a fellow university destroy itself over one bad president.

We have dealt with this before TH and we will deal with it again. -If TH does not wise up soon.

So, the baby was born in January, and old grandpoppy just made an emergency trip down to USM this week. Speculation or not, it has peculiar written all over it.

Will somebody at USM please look out for a fellow southern cousin?

"Its a second baby, different daughter, idiot." -How are we supposed to know? TH never told us.

Thanks for letting us chat here USM. You could probably learn a great deal about dealing with power from us idiots. We have dealt with power tripping presidents before. No big whoop. TH already understands this, and this is probably why he has shut off the communications.

Good luck to your fight! We are always here to help.

I hate to sound so naive, and this is coming from someone who is no fan of Tim Hudson, but what is it that you want from him concerning his personal life?  I have the impression that you expect him to issue formal announcements concerning family matters having nothing to do with his role as university president.  If this is your expectation, then I wouldn't advise holding your breath because it ain't gonna happen.  I've been associated with five major universities during my career and I don't recall faculty or staff ever receiving that sort of personal information from a president.  If you have legitimate concerns over Hudson's job performance,  which I gather you do, I'd urge you to make them known through official U of H channels and keep them separate from curiosity about his family.

TH flew the coop just to put the words “President” on his CV. Get over it. Get used to it. You were not his first employer of choice. He was rejected by many ports of call before YOU let him dock at your port.

What is the point to this?

Just wanted to make sure no one thought this was me.  But, I do think this thread is fairly ridiculous, IMHO.

I agree. This discussion is a perfect example of  a faculty with too much idle time.

Thanks truth. You just made the point. I confirmed via Google where TH had interviewed with UT-PanAm and Slippery Rock University. So TH’s heart is anywhere but with UHV. My guess is that his heart is still with USM, or that his ego is getting in the way of where he is really supposed to be. –Meaning, defending USM.

Thanks again!

So is there a new TH grandbaby or isn’t there? Somewhere the intent of today’s inquiry was disrupted. Did TH go to back to USM to assist, defend or is he just a proud grandpappy? I suspect old grandpappy has some explaining to do upon his return to Texas.

what is AAUP for?

if this is indeed a place for discussing AAUP issues at USM, why are there idiots on here questioning whether or not a former employee has children of child-bearing age? and whether or not it is ok to leave work for the birth of a grandchild?

if you reflect on this amazingly divergent 4-page conversation on tim hudson, his daughters, a house, the IRS, the USM proofreader, 'bimbos', etc...... and then reflect on current issues to actually do affect some lives at USM and in Hattiesburg and Mississippi......and then imagine what 'outsiders' see who come here to find out what is going on with the administration and faculty at USM........perhaps they indeed do find reason to believe the accusations about complaining and pettiness.

amazing stuff

Yet again, this is an ANONYMOUS message board. The only credentials one needs to post here are a computer and fingers (unless you have voice-recognition software, I suppose!). No brain necessary! Until the USM AAUP decides to change these rules, please keep this in mind when making inane statements like the ones above.

I'm tired of hearing about threads that people don't want to read. If you don't want to read about them and don't want to see them on Page 1, then DON'T CLICK ON THEM AND STOP POSTING TO THEM!

It is all about management and leadership. TH brought “family” into his sudden departure and return to Mississippi. Some people thought this sounded fishy, because of conflicting statements that were made before he left, and his sudden return to USM seems to coincide with last night’s meeting. TH has very much made his family a part of his presidency from day one, so the grapevine is not bringing any thing up that TH has not already made public. This is not about family; this is about raising a good manager. We are trying to raise TH into a leader. –Obviously this is not working very well, or we would not be posting to your site.

The Texas Vineyard just wanted to verify statements that were made by TH. Further, the Texas Vineyard is looking into other allegations of past behavior of TH at USM.

We’re just trying to make good wine out of a sour grape.
