The front page story on IHL funding plans in the Clarion-Ledger suggests that there might have been something to the conspiracy theory. Five years of USM turmoil has paid off for State and Ole Miss.
For those of us out of state, could you please amplify this? A web link to the article would be helpful, because I couldn't find anything immediately obvious on www.clarionledger.com. Thanks!
the clarion ledger article does not seem to exist. but if you want to see what was reported go to the following link: http://www.ihl.state.ms.us/system_review_newsletter/system_review_new.html.
at that point go to the section on the reallocation of appropriated funds and click the link to the powerpoint presentation. in a nutshell, the IHL is starting to use a funding formula approved in 2003 and the upshot of it is, is that if fully applied right now, usm would lose about $3.5 million in appropriations, while ole miss would gain over $10 million, and msu would gain over $4 million (if i remember correctly). the ihl is going to implement this over a five year period, so each year they will rerun the formula, and these numbers might change.

Saunders will do her best to keep USM where it is supposed to be.
That said, Ole Myth is constructing a new "residential college" (i.e., dorms with food service). This will be the first new university housing in almost 40 years. Of course, a huge proportion of UM students are Greeks & the university doesn't build Greek housing (as does USM, apparently). There have been several fraternity & sorority houses built since the '60s...
