I just read in today's Hattiesburg American that LVN's father died this weekend. Linda has always been a valued member of our message board community, and I feel confident that I can speak for all of us in expressing sympathy to her and her family during this time. Linda, you are in my thoughts and prayers.
I am so sorry. You have been an important member of our community (Fire Shelby/ AAUP) and you have our support during this sad and hard personal time. Take care of yourself and know that you are cared about by many.
I am VERY sorry to hear this news. LVN was always one of the people whose postings I most looked forward to reading on the original FS board; I admired her wisdom, wit, and common sense -- qualities she no doubt inherited partly from her father. I hope that she knows we are all thinking about her right now.
What a lovely surprise to come home today and find all these kind messages. Your thoughts and prayers are much appreciated. My dad had been in poor health for a long time, and we are grateful for his release as well as sad to lose him. And yes, before his first stroke many years ago, he had a razor wit, but I never knew him to be deliberately hurtful. He was a self-educated man and a voracious reader of history, political science, and cowboy fiction. He's the reason I never make assumptions about how smart "ordinary people" are! May I also encourage anyone who ever needs them, to use hospice. They were wonderful beyond words. Even though my dad, a nursing home patient for several years, only got to be home a few days, at least he died at home with his family around, in a quiet and loving atmosphere.
P.S. Special thanks to T.C. Now that school is out (I was actually teaching this term in a COAL dept.) I may be able to post more. You folks are so special to me.
