Fiddling while USM burns is what he was hired to do, VSN notwithstanding. All is proceeding according to plan.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think SFT will get to play out his remaining 2 years to provide "necessary continuity" while USM mucks around with SACS probation. If he succeeds with the mission envisioned by his IHL backers, USM will be converted to UM-Hattiesburg, eliminating that embarrassingly successful football program in the process.

Once the precedent is set for "UMization," IHL will proceed to point out how much more cost effective everything is & we'll quickly see UM-Cleveland, UM-Itta Bena, UM-Jackson, MSU-Lorman & MSU-Columbus.

Remember, though, that I also believe that Lee Harvey Oswald did not act along, that freemasons are plotting to control the world & that the USAF has alien bodies in the morgue at Area 51.

I like the sound of UMH. But we need to keep our PR department happy (their mantra is Call us "Southern," not "USM"). So, why not the University of Mississippi-Southern? Think of the advantages! We can get our paws on their deep endowment. The Rock is sitting on some prime real estate--and a number of colleges could build some sweet new homes there once it is demolished. Students would flock here--you could get a UM degree without actually having to live in Oxford (yeh, I know its quaint, but there's even less there than in Hattiesburg). We could go the Oxford for football games, trash the town and campus, and come back to a nice clean home. And best of all, they actually hire administators who grew up more than 10 miles from campus!!! Go UMS! Oh, want to know what "USM" stands for? U Sue Me, of course!

Will PR accept "Southern" or does it have to be "Southern Miss?" I thought "Southern" was unacceptable because of the potential for confusion with Southern University in Louisiana.

The only problem I can see is for our radio station. First it was WMSU (because it was licensed when the expectation was that our name would be Mississippi Southern University). Then, a few years ago, it was changed to WUSM. We'd have to change that to WUMS wouldn't we?
