Note the last lines of today's Clarion Ledger editorial:
"This problem lies squarely at the steps of the president of the university. It's embarrassing. The College Board should intervene and send in personnnel to ensure corrections are made. The board also should be discussing Thames' future with him, or whether there should be one."
Mark my words, the end of near, and its only a matter of time. The C-L is speaking for Thames's enemies in the legislature. If I were a newly appointed dean or associate dean at USM, I'd start getting the resumes out. We're going to see a house cleaning in the coming months.

Forgive me for saying this, but I'll believe this when I see it. SFT has "escaped" being fired in spite of his actions before now................

No need. The long history at USM is for an offical announcement that the person has gone back to his or her first love. Believe me, my CV has long been dusted off and ready to post. Low-middle administration is hardly a fun job at even the best of places.

I wish ole Shelboo would go back to his first love of non-stinky paint.

You are right. The C-L is ahead of the "learning curve," so to speak. They are in touch with powers that be, and they wouldn't print something like this unless they had the finger on the pulse of legislators who are going to demand his resignation.
What pi$$es me off the worst, though, is that the crisis last spring barely raised any eyebrows in the legislature. But now that federal funds are endangered, they are listening. Oh well...get it however you can, I guess.
Fire Shelby, I agree. The entire situation from last spring was frustrating and even more so because it seemed to go unheard by many. However, I think (and I will echo those on other threads) that the idea of academic integrity and tenure do not translate as easily to legislators or most of their constituents like dollars. But I as you say, take it any way you can get it.
