Okay, this is what we've been waiting for everyone. We need to start writing letters to the editors, letters to College Board members, letters to the Alumni Association, etc. letting everyone know that this is the LAST STRAW when it comes to Papa Shelboo's administration. Letters from alums (and parents of current and potential students) will be very effective. We've got to make sure the Shelboo and Darth Mader don't get their spin to stick--we've got to inform the public as to why this matters and why Shelboo is ultimately to blame. I have posted the addresses of IHL board members on the IHL Board thread (click here and scroll down the page for my post), and I'll post contact info for Hattiesburg American, Clarion Ledger, and Sun Herald below. Others can post letter templates or other ideas to get the word out.
I just emailed Thomas Bartlett and another reporter at The Chronicle. You may remember that Thomas wrote the articles for The Chronicle during the F&G debacle.

And I just received a response back from him. He says that they are aware of what's happening and they are "keeping an eye on the situation."
Here's the letter I just sent off to the IHL; my best wishes are with everyone at USM (except SFT and Co.).
Word is now spreading beyond Mississippi about the latest -- and most serious -- mess at the University of Southern Mississippi under the presidency of Shelby Thames. The possible loss of accreditation by SACS, along with the drop in USM's national rankings by US News and World Report, are clear indications that a change of president is definitely needed at USM. Under the leadership of Shelby Thames, USM has gone from being a highly respected college within the southeast to being a growing embarrassment not only to Mississippi but to the region as a whole. The antics of Shelby Thames and his cohorts have only reinforced the worst (and unfair) prejudices that outsiders have about the south as an intellectual backwater. Now Thames's chickens are coming home to roost. Thank goodness that it is a southern-based agency -- SACS -- that is helping to remedy the situation by placing USM on probation. The IHL can show decisively that southerners and Mississippians really do value integrity in higher education by dismissing Shelby Thames -- the sooner the better.
Sincerely,
Robert C. Evans Professor of English Auburn University Montgomery

Thank you, Robert. It would be helpful if you sent it along to the papers as well.
I just sent the letter off to the HA and will send a copy to the CL, too. By the way, the HA has a poll today about the issue, with opinion currently running 85% to 15% in favor of an IHL investigation of the current mess. It's hard for me to imagine why even 15% would oppose an investigation!
