at this point (I know many would say sooner) only a fool, would be supportive of Thames. Even though he may not be 100% responsible for this SACS mess, it is under his watch.
This is the chance you have been waiting for, I never though you would get it. If we can't succeed in ousting Thames now, he is here for the duration. If efforts are stepped up and call banks are set up to call alumni there is no way Thames can paint (even with a high durability, oderless, ploymer based paint) this into a positive situation.
This is my call to arms, we won't get another chance like this. It is now or never. I know many of you have disdane for me in your souls, but put that aside. Today, I sent out more than a dozen letter, not emails, to various education officials from the state, to our Congressional leaders. We can't let this opportunity pass. It is now or never.

Well well Seeker. Your idea of call banks is actually . . .. brilliant. And doable.

I hope you're right - but the alumni association, the alums' organizing group, seemed on its fat butt while Stringer and Glamser were left swinging in the breeze.
Seeker is right. This is the best opportunity we have had to free USM from Shelby Thames. We must contact board members, IHL staffers, politicians, they guy at the gas station, every alumnus we know & tell them that this problem is not going to go away until USM has some competent leadership. And the Dome is the place to start.

Keep in mind to your average alumni, this is a completely different situation. I suggest if you do take up the suggestion of a call bank, that you do not mingle the two. That will only confuse the issue at hand. The issue at hand is preventing the degree hanging on my wall, and the wall of every other alumni from becoming worthless. To the average alum (I know in your mind it's a continuation) the Glamser/Stringer mess had no effect on them.
This situation is serious. Please, take up the charge and set up the call banks. This is our last chance. I am doing what I can from Richmond. I will be in Washington next week, and plan to have lunch with one of our congressmen. I will do what I can from here, but as many of you know, my family is well known in H'burg, and I cannot do much from a public standpoint.

Yep -- Galmser and Stringer were a faculty issue for some of them. And an annoying one at that. Although I have to add from my point of view that two good men were horribly wronged.
But this -- this actually has a definite affect on pride, value of degree -- and their kids if they intend to send them to USM. This is more personal.
If you guys can get a call bank set up, I will write a script for your callers. Change it alter it, do with it what you want. But, I do this sort of thing for a living, and am offering it to you for free.

Seeker, nice to see you on the right team now. Someone please take him up on this offer...Amy Young, are you listening?
If I were writing a script for a phone bank, there are two topics that I would stress:
1) SACS Probation
2) US News and World Report - Dorp in Tier Ranking
The reason being these are things that all alumni can relate to, it directly effects them and the degrees hanging on their walls. This is what will get their attention.

Absolutely...anything else will become divisive. Now is the time to come together with a unified message. Shelby Thames has failed this university and he has to go. Seeker, I am impressed with you right now!

I think Seeker has always been on the "right team." He just has a different view of the playing field. His overall goal is no different from most of the rest of ours. And with a spellchecker, nobody would recognize him!
The phone bank idea is a good one. Just don't "misuse" university equipment to do it!

Yep, Seeker was just too much of a schoolyard bully on the old Fire Shelby board for my tastes. The goal is the same, but the means to get there are so different...

If I may say so, I believe Seeker has been on the "right team" all along. The fact that his "outsider's" perspective hasn't always conformed to that of the board's majority makes his insights all the more valuable. I give him credit for continuing to make contributions to this board in the face of constant ridicule over spelling and grammar, and withering criticism for his contrarian views.
I agree that this is the time to finally vanquish the entire sorry Thames cabal. In my opinion, if it doesn't happen now, it ain't gonna happen until he retires. I sent letters to each of the IHL members this morning, with another opus to the alumni association officers presently under construction. I only hope I've been able to temper my ****edoffedness at Thames enough that the letters won't be dismissed as hateful blather.
On a related topic, someone asked if the SACS probation could be one of the mysterious Hudson parting gifts discussed here some months ago. I don't think the accreditation mess bears his signature but I doubt he'd be surprised by this development. The last time I spoke with Uncle Tim, before he left Hattiesburg, he made an offhand remark that now seems prescient. He said he found it odd that a trained scientist could be so oblivious to detail. I can't recall his entire explanation but it was something to the effect that Thames' megalomania rendered him incapable of accepting the notion that ordinary rules and requirements (such as the SACS requirements) were applicable to him. He said this would ultimately prove to be Thames' undoing at USM. Let's hope he was right.

Hmmm, I didn't realize that a perfectly acceptable medical/psychiatric term would be masked by the board of censors. Just out of curiosity, I wonder if this approach will work...here goes.

AE, glad to see you around! I agree with Uncle Tim on this one...as many of us have said all along, Shelboo's personality disorder has gotten him into so much trouble over the years. This should come as no surprise to anyone who has ever worked with him, been taught by him, or ever met him. Keep those letters rolling out!
I have noticed on Eagle Talk that many people there still believe Shelby is a supporter of athletics. I disagree. Most of the projects that have helped athletics were either completed or started in previous administrations. I have seen nothing but self serving talk from Shelby on athletics. He uses the opportunity to advertise on ESPN as a way to feather his own polymer nest.
