Here's a story about a school that lost its accreditation, in part because the materials they submitted were plagiarized. The story at the link below (the site may ask for some information from you):
There is a story on this school in today's Chronicle of Higher Education, much of which sounds eerily familiar:
"[the school] has struggled against various setbacks in recent years . . . "
"[the president] tried to paint a positive gloss on the crisis . . . "
"When the plagiarism was disclosed by the Times-Union, [the president] admitted that the copying had taken place but blamed it on a senior administrator who has since left the college . . ."
The president "is credited with raising enrollment . . ."
"This past spring, the college drew unwanted publicity when it fired five senior administrators in what it called a 'restructuring,'" one of whom said "they had been given no reasons for their dismissal, but alleged that they had been forced out to prevent them from disciplining a popular student accused of [falsifying her transcript] . . . "
There's at least one hopeful, buck-stops-here note in the article:
"[When the president and other officials were summoned to Atlanta], "they apparently were unable to convince the agency that the copying was an innocent mistake . . ."
(I believe my own quotation of this article is brief enough to fall within "fair use"; someone please advise if not.)
i read both the chronicle's and the jacksonville paper's stories. it's a sad tale of what a lot of smaller historically black universities go through. i heard a story of one in the dallas area where buildings on campus were literally falling down.

Well, don't trust me, Jameela, because I think copying a CD of every concert on a Bob Dylan tour is "fair use" But thanks for posting these excerpts.
I remember during the Generalissimo's reign, someone graffitoed a construction fence around the then-new Johnson Tower with the phrase "McCain Plagiarizes"...

Be careful where you walk in the academic barnyard lest you stop in the deja vu.
