Behind the Lines & Rachel:

Rachel I believe you have some good points.  However, I believe that this is one instance that Alumni know what's going on.  "Academic probation" pretty much says it all, and I know most alumni can identify with this serious phrase based on there experience in college and maybe their kids.  Furthermore, Shelby has blamed all the problems on faculty, at least privately.  And I have already talked to a few alumni that suggest this is some form or retribution for the attempted firings last year.  Yet, they also say that even if this is true, they are getting tired of the constant barrage (sp?) of fiascos that have occurred at USM under this admin (this is true for biggest shelby supporters).

BHTL, I can say nothing except, "I feel your pain."  Trust me I and a lot of people know how bad the situation is and are working to remedy the situation.  Remember, our degrees are decreasing in value with every fiasco.

Now, what can we as alumni do? Write letters to the editor of course, but the most effective route is to use influence.  Trust me, it is becoming harder for Shelby's supporters to be supporters because of his obvious inabilities.  Also, don't expect much from the official alumni association.  They are funded in large part through the university, at least administratively, to give the univerisity control over them.  Otherwise, I would image that the Alumni Assoc. would be all over this.  However, guys (Alumni reading this post) don't underestimate your influence on the IHL and executive Alumni Committee (which is composed of "outsiders").  They listen, with the exception of Klumb (he is the one that basically hired Shelby and has his ego to protect).

In any event, please get the Faculty Senate to call for another no confidence vote.  There is no better time, and it will focus the problem Shelby.  LET'S GET THIS IDIOT OUT OF THE DOME!

Thank you, Retired Prof.

USM President Shelby Thames said students won't be negatively impacted.

"The areas of concern do not have anything to do with faculty teaching," Thames said in the written statement. "This status does not in any way negatively affect our students and their education."

Hogwash!

Bad decision, lie, cover-up...repeat the cycle.  Who would have believed the same words would be as relevant today as they were eight months ago?

Beautifully posted!!!  Surely someone's got to start listening to us now ....  this is a window of opportunity that we cannot let slip by ..... it may be hopeful thinking but I really believe this could be it for Thames.

Invictus, I love the new sign off on your posts!

NO QUARTER NO QUARTER NO QUARTER!!!!!

Here's a link to the Alumni Association website where the "outside" board of directors are listed.  Click on a member's name and you will find that member's e-mail address.

For those who remember, Becky Montague (an Alumni Association Board Member) wrote a wonderful letter to the Hattiesburg American back during the G/S mess.

Wasn't Southern Mess supposed to hold a press conference or something today?

Is there any news about Shelby's meeting with the IHL?

he held a press conference at 1:30. It was aired by WUSM. I assume highlights will be on TV. I didn't hear it so can't add anything about what was said.
