I know that there was some discussion here in the past that SFT was in the process of pressuring Coach Bower at at USM.
A friend of mine who is close to the situation, said that last week there was a big pow wow with Bower, Thames, Giannini and John Miller. He said that any difference in the past have been agreed upon and that there is no danger that Bower will be pushed out.
I know this is of little confort for many of you but Bower is a good many, who is loyal to the University and he has one of the highest graduation rates in the nation for his players. So, at least there are a few positive things going on.
Why would you think that's of "little comfort" to us? Most on this board have been very pro-Bower, and were afraid he was about to get a raw deal. You are correct that his graduation rates are a big point of pride for all at USM.

I hope what you posted is true, however forgive me for being a little skeptical. The Anti-Bower forces are still sending letters to the HA. SFT has not been overly vocal in supporting Coach Bower. Regarding the parlay between the parties mentioned and the agreement that Bower is not in danger, SFT has been known for changing his mind. If Southern Miss loses at the Bowl game next week against North Texas (although I believe this won't happen), this will not sit well with SFT or the Anti-Bower forces. I would say that if not this year, maybe next year we will see pressure placed on Bower to leave and be replaced by a "big-named" coach.....

KK, this board has been more supportive of Bower than that "other" board has been (Eagle Fever, or whatever it is called) . And a more meaningful way.
Consider this when reading the Anti-Bower letters that are being sent to the Hattiesburg American. The authors of those letters are not Eagle Club members or in at least one instance season ticket holders (Shannon Yates who writes one letter per month against Bower admitted in his last letter he is not a season ticket holder).
When talking about other boards, EagleTalk.net's owners are supportive of Bower, while some individual posters may not be. EaglePost.net is less supportive of Bower, and a new Board has been started who's goal is to get Bower fired.
The problem with getting a "big-name" coach is that we can't afford one. Eustachy was a special situation that won't come along for USM again. Thames has plenty of flaws, but he won't hire someone who has a negative record with the NCAA. The only "big-name" coaches out there left have a shady history with the NCAA.

The fired head coach at Florida just took the head coaching job at Illinois. Nothing more than frutibasket turnover. It seems that the forces that control college athletics are never satisfied (except at schools whose mission is primarily acdemic in nature). KK, I'd be interested in knowing the website address - the new one that you said is anti- Bower. I'd like to see what kind of squirrley thinking they are engaging in.

The one other one that is has a majority of anti-Bower posteres is www.eaglepost.net The biggest Southern Miss online community is www.EagleTalk.net it has a few anti-Bower posters, but most are supportive of Bower. Both of those boards allow different opinions so you will hear both sides on each."
