You are right, young man, the academicians at USM have no control. Things are, indeed, "out of control." What a sad state of affairs at your beloved university. Let me tell you another thing: USM was established for educational, not athletic, purposes. Otherwise, you would have no USM to call an alma mater (or whatever relationship you have to this institution). Perhaps the New Orleans Saints would suit you better.

When interviewing prospective faculty and students, meeting with numerous visitors to the campus, and attending professional conventions, I have never been asked "Do y'all have a football team?," "Do y'all have winning athletic teams?," Do y'all have good place to tailgate?," "Do y'all give a discount to faculty purchasing athletic tickets?," "Did ya'll win last weekend?," "Who yall playing next?," or any other question pertaining to athletics. The halls of learning will be standing on Hardy Street long after M.M. Roberts stadium is but a pile of crushed cinderblock.

Are you suggesting that the faculty at USM is somehow different than the faculty at other universities? If you are saying that the faculty is much worse than at other universities, you are saying that your university is much worse.

The fact of the matter is that the USM faculty isn't much different, especially before about 200 of them left over the past two years.
