Posters on this board might recall that some months ago I suggested three models (A,B,C) for  USM to consider as possible vehicles of remediation of the current mess. One of those models was that of providing administrative sabbaticals so that those who don't seem to know quite how it is done elsewhere could learn. That model is not as far fetched as some posters thought. Here is a news item where the 61-year-old president of Randolph-Macon is returning to college (St. John's) as a freshman - not to learn how to administer (he already does that quite well), but to re-experience the freshman experience all over again. There's something to be learned from this:

"Martin, the president of Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va., is the oldest freshman at St. John's - by four decades. Some on the faculty are young enough to have been his students back when he was a history professor.

Martin went back to school this year because he wanted to study the freshman experience in a way that would be impossible from the president's office. So he took a semester-long sabbatical from the top of the academic food chain to dwell at the bottom."
