With USM's victory over UAB today, the Eagles are now 6-4 overall and bowl eligible.  Assuming Louisville takes care of Tulane next week, the Eagles are a lock for a bowl, and look to be headed to either New Orleans or Fort Worth.  The opponent for the New Orleans Bowl is North Texas, while the Fort Worth Bowl opponent is unknown at this time.  Some speculation indicates that it's one of Iowa State, Colorado, Oklahoma State or Texas Tech.


A win by Tulane over Louisville next week would make the Green Wave 6-5 overall, and bowl eligible.  This outcome would also give C-USA six bowl eligible teams, and one of the six team's bowl hopes might be in jeapardy.  One could concoct a scenario where the Eagles are the least attractive bowl team.

According to SI.com  Southern Miss has accepted a bowl bid.


Dec. 14th New Orleans Bowl- Southern Miss vs. North Texas State of the Sun Belt Conference.

It was announced in the Hattiesburg American's internet edition this evening:


Southern Miss wins New Orleans Bowl bid


The brief news item said a full report would be published tomorrow.

Given that C-USA has only 5 eligible bowl teams right now, with TCU's upset loss to Tulane on Saturday, and that USM was tapped for the New Orleans Bowl, supports our statement that USM was/is the least attractive bowl team to the 5 C-USA bowl ties (New Orleans Bowl picks last).

Ft. Worth: nobody yet, but Cincinnati waiting
