I thought the problem was that the USM v. Cal game was originally scheduled for a Friday night in order to accommodate national television.  Friday nights are traditionally when high school games are played. I understood that the high school athletic association was upset that a local college would be playing on Friday, therefore "biting the hand" that sends recruits.  Saturday would be the usual day for a college football game.
