1. Angie Dvorak becomes president of the Hattiesburg/Pine Belt ADP amid controversy about her involvement with Glasmer/Stringer termination hearing.
2. ADP board member resigns in protest of Dvorak’s being selected to head the ADP
3. Lee Jarrell Davis announces his candidacy for Mayor of Hattiesburg on the steps of the Lucas Administration Building on the Southern Miss Campus citing “ I want the message loud and clear, I will always be there for USM”
4. University of Southern Mississippi director of athletics Richard Giannini interviewed about the defeat of a $12 million bond issue to benefit the university sent a highly critical message that “the city (of Hattiesburg) doesn't care about the future of the school”
5. Today’s opinion question in the Hattiesburg American Newspaper: Should University of Southern Mississippi officials attempt another bond issue to help fund athletic-facility improvements at USM? (BTW, with 267 votes & over 56.6% say “NO”)
6. Shelby Thames interviewed on WDAM and his committment to build the Trent Lott building despite lack of funding and no set date for construction to begin.

Clyde Bryant (SP?) was interviewed by WDAM on the 10 pm news indicating he was resigning because of Angie D.

Yep, with Angie D., at least you know what you're going to get. A HUGE STINKING MESS!
But, you know, they did a perfectly great national search and--lookee here!--the most perfectly great candidate was in their own backyard, toiling away at the USM Research Foundation spinning straw (discarded patents) into fools gold (tax write-offs for the university). Now, that's some economic development!

This is about the most childish, sore-loser statement I've ever seen. Giannini should apologize to the people of Hattiesburg post haste. Or perhaps USM should find an AD that has a little bit more class and sensitivity.
Plus, why don't they take some of the money from the capital campaign for this endeavor? I'm sure they were planning on spending the majority of it on athletics anyway (heaven forbid, they should spend it on anything to benefit those icky faculty members! )

Actually Truth that IS Economic Development. Train (as opposed to educate) your own with unqualified instructors in a bogus program, hire back more of the same, set up your own bogus accrediting agency, seed all of the state agencies with your graduates where they can spread the Economic Development message and recruit an ever increasing unqualified crop of believers. Where can I sign up for my free introductory package?

Is there an academic accrediting agency for Economic Development programs? If so, then I suppose it follows that the first-of-its-kind program at USM is accredited? Was the "bogus" accrediting agency established by USM, or Thames, or Dvorak?
I'm completely in the dark (yes, I know, my usual state)--what are you talking about?

My point is that SFT is extending his tentacles into local politics (unseating the current Mayor, by supporting Lee Jarrell Davis, Angie in the ADP and who knows whatelse (or where else) his efforts are expanding). SFT is angry that his administration failed to acheive the Bond issue and he's going to do what ever he can to cause change, and gain the advantage.

Why waste your time with a free introductory package, when you can cut straight to the chase & get a free diploma?
No 2 week seminar, no online "residency" requirement, no tuition & fees, and no 2-page thesis. You do have to supply your own paper & hum "Pomp & Circumstance" as the ink jet spits it out, though...
Lee Jarrell got the stuffing beat out of him the last time he ran for mayor....if Shelby supports him that will really doom him. The only fate worse than a Shelby endorsement is a Hattieburg American endorsement.
Lee Jarrell is a USM supporter and actually a pretty good guy, but if he hitches his wagon to Shelby's star, he really has trouble.
The USM AD should do the honorable thing and move on if he is so disappointed in the city he lives NEAR (Canebrake resident?).
