Driskell Named to Legislative Post at Southern Miss

Hattiesburg, Miss. University of Southern Mississippi President Martha Saunders announced today the appointment of Chad Driskell as executive assistant to the president for external affairs effective Sept. 24. His responsibilities include legislative affairs and management of relationships with elected officials and municipalities, among other interest areas.

I am very pleased to bring in a Southern Miss alum with the depth of experience and enthusiasm for our university that Chad offers.  He will be able to move forward quickly to continue to build on our positive momentum, said Dr. Saunders.

Driskell is a 1993 graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi where he studied political science.  He received a masters degree in public policy administration at Mississippi State University in 1995. His previous experience includes positions with the Mississippi Bankers Association as senior vice president for government relations and with the Mississippi Gaming Commission.

I am eager to work with Dr. Saunders in communicating all of the great things happening at the university to our local, state and federal elected officials, stated Driskell.  We will be working together to advance the agenda for Southern Miss and it is a greater honor to represent my alma mater in this important role, he concluded.

Driskell was selected following a search by a campus committee chaired by Dr. Julian Allen, associate vice president for Research and Economic Development.

A native of Forest, Miss., Driskell played football and graduated from East Central Community College before transferring to Southern Miss. He is married to Katherine McMurry Driskell of the Oak Grove community, and they have two sons.
