these rankings are old, because they came out last august.  the newest rankings will come out this friday (MSNBC's website confirms this).

cat--what do you mean by embargoed results?  if you go to the webpage you link to and look at the national universities at the bottom of the page, USNWR indicates that the 2008 results will be available (and purchased) this friday.

Colleague from another school has the embargoed results and said they are the same.  I was just passing it on.  We can see if that is true on Friday

cat--i still don't know what you mean by embargoed results.  do i expect us to be tier 4 friday--shor 'nuff.  but then again, i could care less about USNWR rankings.

SCM - "embargoed" means that an agency (or publication) sends out information in advance of its publication, with the stipulation that it not be disseminated before the date specified in the "embargoed" news release.

Here, cat's friend has "leaked" information before the official release date specified in the news release.

oldtimer--i understand that in your example.  however, the hyperlink that cat used to start the thread went to last year's results on USNWR's webpage.  those clearly aren't embargoed.

Cat was right -- #4. The upside is that many are trashing the report so Marketing and Public Relations can use that defense.
