" A year ago,Major General Buford Blount,III, an ROTC graduate of (USM) was commanding a 20,000-man strike force in Iraq.
He had been hand picked . . . to command the US Army's first assault on Saddam Hussein's Iraqi army.
...
When he left that command. . .President Bush personally awarded him a medal for extraordinary leadership... .
Today, General Blount, ..., is serving at the Pentagon ... as Deputy Chief of Staff for Army Tactics.
Next month, he will be retiring from military service and, as of now, plans to make his home in Hattiesburg.
Colonel Buford Blount II [the General's son and Mayor of Bassfield] said major manufactures . . . across the country have expressed interest in adding the General to their corporate executive staffs.
Meanwhile the [ADP] ... (met) with General Blount as the search continues for an executive officer ... .
...General Blount expressed an interest in the position ... .
Then he voluntarily withdrew his name.
Sources close to the ADP search said General Bount was told ... he did not meet ADP qualifications for the position... (which) include six years experience as an economic professional.
There is, however, a candidate who meets that qualification.
...
Incoming ADP Chair Richard Jones (said), 'We are looking for a candidate with a successful track record. ... We want someone with at least seven to 10 years of experience' in the economic development field.
'The committee is especially interested in finding an individual who understands the importance Southern Miss plays in the local economy and in attracting new businesses.'
...[T]he candidate 'must possess strong managerial and financial skills.'
...
Sources close to the search said some members are supporting the candidacy of Dr. Angie Dvorak... .
...
...[T]he organization hopes to have a new president in place by the end of the year.
You've got to be kidding. The guy reached flag rank, he's a USM alum with Hattiesburg roots, commanded 20,000 troops, and he takes a back seat to the thoroughly discredited Thomas Cooley grad? Who in the hell is making these decisions? Excuse me, I need to fetch my blood pressure med....no, make that valium.

EXCUSE ME!!!! But, since the Thames administration has been in place WHY are we not suprised that such bad and ill-advised decisions like this have been made. If Angie is selected it just proves that SFT has more than his hand in this pie and the "fix" was in. In my opinion if USM and Shelby Thames are involved with any thing requiring a decision, a "poor" one (decision) was made.:
Today in the Hattiesburg American Local News section, an article indicating that the ADP hasn't made a final decision about the new ADP president but may do so and announce as early as next week, also picks up on the story about Major General Blount (a week after the Independent led with the story).
"One person who spoke to ADP officials about the vacancy but didn't make the cut is Maj. Gen. Buford C. Blount III, the University of Southern Mississippi graduate who led more than 20,000 U.S. troops into Baghdad during the war in Iraq. "
"Blount played a major role this year in augmenting Hattiesburg's economy by helping Camp Shelby become a mobilization station for troops headed to Iraq."
"While Blount has extensive experience in the military, managing budgets and programs, he did not have the required six years of economic development experience the ADP wanted from candidates."
Today in the Clarion Ledger afternoon update, there is an article announcing that "Aurora Flight Sciences will open a manufacturing facility in Starkville to build unmanned aircraft, officials said today. The new plant is expected to generate 300 jobs and provide an economic impact of more than $45 million over the next four years."
Interesting pair of articles -- maybe even unrelated.

Isn't six years, quite by coincidence, the exact duration of economic development experience claimed by Mrs. Dr. Dr. Dvorak? Give me a sec and I'll check her vita.
Incidentally, a more careful examination of the ADP's menu of job qualifications includes a doctorate in English, and a law degree from that font of economic development research, The Thomas Cooley School of Law. This narrows the field somewhat, eh?
WDAM at 6 o'clock reported that there were four candidates for the ADP leadership position. According to "sources" WDAM is reporting that Angie D is one of the four.
Seems someone at ADP owes SFT a favor and that my prediction is Angie will get the job.

Let's see...
General Blount pumped up 20,000 troops in Iraq. Dr. Dvorak pumped up her resume. The ADP's decision really is a no-brainer.
