It must have killed them sitting on sending that letter waiting for a loss. Bower was 4-0 and is still on top of the conference. Anybody who thinks that USM can compete with the budget, stadium, tradition, and talent of Alabama, one of the storied football powers in America is clueless about college football.

I agree Shadow the anti-Bower forces were waiting for this. If Southern Miss had not beat Neb. the talk would have started sooner. For every loss we have this season, letters like this will continue to be written.
Keep Bower! He runs a clean program and his kids graduate!
When USM has the financial resources to buy athletic talent like Alabama, and commands the TV "clout" to intimidate the NCAA into not punishing it for purchasing said talent, it will be competitive with the University of Alabama. 'Nuff said.
As "Shadow" said already, it must've killed that guy to have to sit on his letter until the 5th game of the season. The fact that Bower has won a single game at Alabama is remarkable, considering that every game has been played at Alabama with their conference referees.
Surprise. Someone who loves music also follows football--"sort of."
It looks like Louisville is for real. Do we still play them? (I say "sort of" because I stopped going to the games years ago.) If so, I fear eagle blood will lie all over the ground that day--mingling with that of Bower.
Jeff Bower, his wife Debbie, and his delightful daughter Stephanie are a family that USM should claim with pride. Run Jeff off, SFT, and then find out how academics and athletics are not as far apart as you obviously think.
I wondered how long it would take after this loss before the drumbeats started. Gee, only 3 days!
Think about this:
Loyalty
Integrity
Class
A winner with very limited resources.
Here is a man who has exhibited all of thse things with consistency over many years.
Doesn't this sound like a lot of faculty as well?
I think Jeff and his staff share more in common with the faculty than we think. Are all of the qualities listed above deserving of recognition and loyalty from the top?
No show tonight on the college-and-university tour, so I'm posting from the "business services room" at the hotel. I think George (the real drummer) will be over his Aramark-induced case of Montezuma's Revenge soon & alas, I'll probably not be on the risers for the private, closed show at Harvard <SIGH>
Whatever.
I've said it before & I'll probably say it again: The USM football program under Jeff Bower is an excellent metaphor for the entire faculty. This is what Stephen Judd is talking about, I think. More with less. Results in spite of the odds. Sure, there are situations where we can't realistically compete year-in & year-out, but we beat the odds most of the time.
Well, they're firing up the busses, so I gotta run...
In the meantime, if anybody needs to really get depressed about the future of Western Civilization, go rent this movie.
KMA Mr. Yates Why be so pesimistic? There is only one "worl class" thing about USM @ the moment, and that is Bower & our playas. Once again mister yates KMA!!!!!!!
That is the most ridicoulous thing I have ever heard. I wish we could have Jeff back here at OSU to be on our staff. He and his family are upstanding people and deserve all the respect possible.
