Cossack - do you have any details regarding this attack upon "other faculty"? As written, your report really does not tell us anything, and I've experienced nothing but good things with your interim dean all these years. What's up? Who is calling the police, and why???
Cossack wrote : "Ram, I checked the links and you are right. There was a butt ugly picture of SFT. It would be nice to see the pleasant face of our new President on the USM web site. I suspect that the lack of haste to change it is another indication of how inefficient and sorry most of the university has become.
I suspect my college (COB) is leading the way in disfunctionality. At the last faculty meeting for the year, our acting Dean completely lost control and allowed an untenured faculty member to show overheads that were a vicious attack on other faculty including me. Before it was all over, the campus police were called and a charge was filed by one faculty member against another. We are losing faculty at a dizzy pace as productive faculty bail out and go elsewhere. Of course many are young and productive people. The administrators of the college and departments are corrupt and incompetent. Searching for replacement faculty will be a depressing task unless one likes lying to potential new hires."
Yes, I have some details, but much of what I have is second hand. When the verbal assault and accusations began at the end of the faculty meeting, I verbally disagreed with the presenter and then left the meeting. I did not want to participate in what I knew was going to deteriorite into a donnybrook. Thus, what I know may not be completely accurate. There is some first hand information on USMPRIDE and more information will be forthcoming over time. Conflicts such as this that have become more intense in COB, and likely elsewhere on campus, are the natural outcome of the bad leadership that we have had in the University and it has seeped down to the lowest levels. Corrupt leadership leads to conflicts and the misallocation of resources. Corrupt administrators do not like productive faculty because such faculty are seldom "yes man (women)". Corrupt administrators try, and often succeed, to by pass the established procedures laid out in the Handbook and then retaliate against faculty who pressure them to follow the rules. It has happened all over campus to varying degrees. This is why I am very concerned that President Saunders set aside some time to find out what is happening at the faculty level. She has a very heavy burden and many things to fix, but it is going to be a difficult task to restore the level of faculty quality we had prior to the administration of SFT. I view it as impossible under the current set of administrators reporting to President Saunders. A quality university is not just about buildings and sports teams. The quality of a university is tied directly to the quality of its faculty and the stability of the faculty. Both are necessary for faculty to provide the discretionary effort that differentiates a quality university from a degree granting factory.

Well said, Cossack. This is the type of thoughtful post you have shared with us in the past.
