Within the past year or so some sort of academic relationship was announced, with fanfare, between USM and the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. As I recall, the goal was to encourage a certain number of their students to enroll at USM. Does anyone know the status of that project or the extent to which it has been successful?

I do know that the faculty on campus who are Choctaw or who conduct research involving the Choctaws have not been consulted at all about increasing Choctaw student numbers at USM. There is also very little (if any) administrative support for any level of an American Indian Studies program at USM. What the "agreement" between Phillip Martin and SFT was really about was future joint business endeavors. Will that benefit students? Doubtful.
