"This isn't a hit list," Grimes said. "It isn't a termination list. It's an attempt by Tim Hudson to satisfy a board request and he didn't do it right. I hate to dump this on him but I have documentation."
and
"Tim Hudson evidently came back from that meeting and sent out an e-mail to all the deans asking them to give him the number of faculty members that were unsatisfactory in either teaching, service or research," Mader said. "That decision by Dr. Hudson was made completely by Dr. Hudson. It was not discussed with Dr. Thames nor the deans."
Now, why in the world would Tim Hudson send this kind of information to the IHL board without discussing it first with SFT? This makes no sense at all. Much like the US News tier drop, this seems to be another case of SFT dropping the ball, then blaming it on Tim Hudson.
And where is this documentation that Jay Grimes is referring to? Did the HA asked to see it? Please, someone tell us that this was discussed at the PUC meeting today!

Actually, I was unaware that the provost could submit anything directly to the IHL board without going through the president's office...
Embedded in the article is this statement for which the Hattiesburg American should be commended for recognizing and publishing: Faculty members earn tenure - which is a guarantee of academic freedom - generally between five and seven years after joining a university. Tenure does not guarantee life-time employment but protects faculty who may take unpopular stands

Too bad that wasn't the case for Frank Glamser and Gary Stringer.
At least the Southern Miss football team managed to squeak by the University of Houston in overtime. If USM had lost, SFT would have blamed Tim Hudson, much to the relief of Jeff Bower.

Mr. Wonderful, this bit of humor is deserving of consideration for the weekly award.
