The NY Times reports today that New York Univerisity is beefing up its Liberal Arts programs in an effort to " make the liberal arts more of the intellectual core of the university, rather than one more school in a confederation of schools."

More and more data is coming in supporting work done several years ago validating the practical value of arts education too.

Been kicked too many times but remember all the links provided by USM Sympathizer on the Best Pieces from FireShelby thread?  Several of them discussed the importance of liberal arts.

When we get down to the brass tacks of the matter, an education involves a mixture of arts, letters, sciences & mathematics, with a reasonable seasoning of technology & business. What I fear has been happening at USM (and almost everywhere else for that matter) is the demise of the "well-rounded education."
