The NY Times reports today that New York Univerisity is beefing up its Liberal Arts programs in an effort to " make the liberal arts more of the intellectual core of the university, rather than one more school in a confederation of schools."

When we get down to the brass tacks of the matter, an education involves a mixture of arts, letters, sciences & mathematics, with a reasonable seasoning of technology & business. What I fear has been happening at USM (and almost everywhere else for that matter) is the demise of the "well-rounded education."
