I know...I'm lovin' this one. Just can't get enough of the irony of that big banner covering the Barbie Doll Townhouse (or at least that's what we called it when I was an undergrad back in the day...).
"And this is a problem, the SGA says, because students living in these dorms suffer from a lack of light and the advertisement could create a fire hazard due to the inabililty to open windows.
To some this may be a problem, but it is our view this is simply an aspect of college life that students are just going to have to accept
...
Students . . . must come to realize that the time spent in college is not one of self-indulgence or preservation."
Satire? I don't know. But I love the irony of promoting the collective good by the display of a banner promoting the power of an individual.
I hadn't thought of the fire safety issue. Please tell me someone checked with the Fire Marshall's office? (We do have one of those in H'burg don't we?) Or is USM exempt from fire codes? How would you get a ladder up to one of those windows? I can tell you for sure, my child would not be in one of those rooms.
