It isn't really a list LVN -- just a compilation of names that have been openly discussed around campus. I have heard all of them -- I'm suprised Lucas daughter didn't make this group, or Tim Hudson . . . . or . . . . been a lot of names.
I've heard from a member of the advisory committee that all five finalists are stellar - that would eliminate Grimes from the list. I don't believe anyone with ties to the university will emerge as the preferred candidate. New blood...thats what this wurl class university needs right now.

"The following list is based purely on rumor and gossip and should be taken as such. We have absolutely no proof any one of these names ever appeared on any list as a candidate for president of USM:"
The Printz has some interesting editorial comments about their rumored finalists that are pretty astute:
Don Cotton: "would have strong support from the city and campus" Steve Doblin: "we believe we should move back toward being a strong liberal arts college" Jay Grimes: "Nobody likes a yes man." Joe Paul: "He has always been good to us here at the Printz" Greg Lassen: on outsourcing: "If any of those things appeal to you, then this is your guy." Martha Saunders: "hopefully she could help out our often-neglected department" Amy Tuck: "The switching back and forth between parties could hurt."
Okay, who is a betting man or woman? Here are my odds on the people rumored to be finalist by the voices in my head.
Martha Saunders (Chancellor, UW-Whitewater)- 4:1 Frances Lucas (President, Millsaps College)- 5:1 Tim Hudson (President, UH-Victoria)- 9:1 Richard Crofts (Former IHL Commissioner)- 10:1 Buford Blount (Former General)- 50:1 Shelby Thames (President, USM)- 1000:1 – maybe he reapplied for his job just like he invited all of the Deans that he fired to do.
