I periodically check in on the petition to see if there are any new names, and this morning saw a post to it that I think Truth needs to see and consider deleting if she can. It has a very negative message (toward the cause) which does not fit in, and the person doesn't sign their name.

I see that the person to whom you refer specifies a USM graduation date of 2006 for an M.S. degree. I'd suggest that USM tighten up its graduate admissions requirements - not on the basis of anything political, but on the basis of literacy. To read that post would lead one to believe that if that person was actually admitted to graduate school, the department to which the admission was granted must have no standards as pertains to writing skills.
Infidels! I have had enough our your criticisms of our economic development students. MS in 2006 is one of our most outstanding students and will probably receive both an MS and a PhD in 2006! MS actually scored in the 1st percentile of the GRE exam. How many other programs can claim a 1st percentile student. If you read the message carefully you will see that this student is sensitve to world affairs and ready to help third world nations develop into strong economic and social engines.
Can someone please post the link to the petition? I have misplaced it. Better yet, can our trusty web-master make that link a "stickied" thread at the top of the first page? Surely the departure of Noel Polk should help spur a whole new round of signatures from admirers of his in the field of American literary studies. Has anyone, by the way, notified such folks (beyond USM) about how shabbily he has been treated? I am not on those kinds of e-mail lists, but someone who is should send out an alert to Faulknerians and others. Fans of Donne have been heard from; let's hear from some outraged Faulknerians, too!

USM Symp., Also, when you first get on the AAUP-USM website look in the top right hand corner. There is a link to the petition just like there is a link to this message board.
