Note that he only mentions polymer science and construction technology, though. I suppose those are the only two departments that count in the New World Order. Oh, and football, too!
This is the guy who wrote in his previous letter that USM faculty who do not submit to Thames should be fired poste haste. He's the retired doctor, father of two other local doctors who are opposed to faculty. See "The Guice Boyz" entry in webster's dictionary.

Y'know, I wonder if anyone has explained that the USN&WR rankings are like golf scores ... lower is better. Somebody might want USM to attain Tier 10 status a.s.a.p. otherwise!
When it comes to athletics the author is delusional. The constant use of hyperbole by USM boosters seems to be a recurring theme. He says USM has one of the best overall athletic programs in the country. Truth be told, USM sponsors the bare minimum number of sports to maintain NCAA Division 1 status. We have no swimming, gymnastics, wrestling, or men's soccer to name just a few sports. The women's programs and minor sports are rarely competitive. Football, baseball, and basketball do not constitute an athletic program. That said, many USM teams do very well given the level of financial support and facilities available.

There is so much of value in your post that applies to more than the sports program!
